Shot on location in the communities surrounding the former Slave Post and prison, Ussher Fort, "Close Strangers" is an examination of the blurry lines between history and reality. Student filmmaker Benjamin Kent walks amongst vendors, school children and local residents, asking questions about the history of the Ussher Fort, a main tourist attraction in the area. The answers he receives are intriguing because they raise even more questions of personal responsibility, the cultural effects of tourism, and the interpretation of history for future generations. "Close Strangers" was filmed and edited as part of a week-long new media workshop organized by the National Black Programming Consortium in collaboration with the Real Life Documentary Festival in Accra, Ghana.
